What is the Bath Bubble Club?

The Bath Bubble Club is a friendly club for SCUBA divers and their families. The aims of the Bath Bubble Club are simple: to go diving as often as we can and have as much fun as possible.

The Bath Bubble Club was founded in 1992 and has used the Culverhay pool on a Wednesday night from the start. During it's history the club has trained many divers to Club Diver certification and a significant proportion have taken further qualifications: in oxygen administration; navigation and chart-work; diver rescue; RYA Power-Boat Level 2 certificate, VHF operator certificate;and as instructors at various levels: etc. – all of the skills needed to run safe diving operations.

The club has regularly dived the south coast sites and the Pembrokeshire coast as well as fitting in some memorable foreign holidays to the Red Sea, Gozo, South Africa (Cape Town to Johannesburg), Sulawesi, Fiji with the hope for more in the future.

The Bath Bubble Club currently owns a 5 metre RIB which members can tow to any dive location for use as a diving tender. On the water the RIB is capable of reaching any of the many inshore dive sites around the coast and it is the means for providing the members with an interesting and varied diving calendar.

On the normal weekends during the diving season the diving events will be day trips, on a Saturday or a Sunday according to demand. These may be using the RIB or shore diving

On the Bank Holidays the club will travel further for a long weekend which will be centred on a holiday resort or a camp site. These weekends are very much family social events so that wherever possible the venues will be chosen to give the non-divers in the family activities and facilities for filling their own days.

The club also organises a number of social events through the year which are open to all family members and friends. - BBQ, skittle evenings etc. – culminating in a Christmas meal at the end of the year

The Bath Bubble Club has been training new divers at the Culverhay Pool and providing diving for it's members since the early 1990 and many of the current members have learnt to dive or advanced their diving within the club. There are also members with a BSAC (British Sub-Aqua Club) and the commercial PADI training and qualification background. Potential new members, whatever their background in diving, can be sure that there will be a warm and understanding welcome into the Bath Bubble Club

The Bath Bubble Club is an independent Scuba diving club registered with a national diving association the SAA (Sub-Aqua Association). The SAA is a non-profit making organisation which sets the standards for diver training and qualification; provides the framework for training courses at higher levels than are available at club level; and sets the standard for diving administration within the clubs themselves. The Sub-Aqua Association is also the UK representative for CMAS (World Underwater Federation). www.saa.org.uk

Membership

There are two grades of membership

Diving Membership is open to men and women of all ages and diving abilities. Whether you have been diving for years and are looking for further opportunities to widen your experience or just want to dive with a reliable friendly crew; or if you are a new diver and you would like to learn to dive with a group of highly trained and committed people then the Bath Bubble Club will welcome you as a new diving member.

Associate membership is for anyone who wishes to have a part in any aspect of the club except for diving.

Membership of the Bath Bubble Club requires membership of the SAA (Sub-Aqua Association ) The SAA membership includes diving insurance for both the club and the member.

As a private club the Bath Bubble Club is a non profit-making organisation with all of the services provided by volunteers from within the membership. However, the Club has running expenses for boat and equipment maintenance, insurance etc. which must be recovered from the members in the form of annual fees. The volunteer resources supporting the club mean that members' benefits are provided at minimum cost and all members are encouraged to share their skills for the benefit of the club as a whole.

This year the Club membership fee is £108 plus the SAA new member fee of £45...

Diving with the Bath Bubble Club.

The diving programme is driven by the member's wishes; run by the members; very often in the club RIB driven by a member with the right qualification. This can include shore dives, diving from RIBS and small boats, hard boat diving, diving weekends, diving holidays, night diving to meet the members wishes

Except for the Bank Holiday weekends when significant accommodation or camp-site pitches need to booked well in advance the dive programme is flexible to allow planning to take account of the expected weather and diving conditions.

Diving with the Bath Bubble Club is at the Diving Officers Discretion. Dive plans are to be produced prior to the dive date for approval by the Diving Officer who will, if all is well, appoint a Dive Marshal from the group of divers for whom the plan has been written. The Dive Marshal will then assume responsibility for diving to the approved plan.

The Bubble Club RIB “JIVE 2”

The Bath Bubble Club own a 5 metre Ribcraft RIB with a 90HP engine. This is a very seaworthy boat and is capable of reaching most south coast sites within a depth of 30 to 40 metres. It is equipped with VHF radio, GPS and fish finder echo-sounder and carries emergency oxygen, first-aid pack, flares and life-jackets.

The boat will carry six divers with equipment in comfort – relatively speaking! The admissible length of journey to a dive site will depend on the number of divers in the party and so the number of trips required in the day to give everyone the opportunity to dive.

The boat is transported on a heavy duty trailer to a suitable launch site for the day's diving. The total weight of the boat and trailer is within the towing capacity of a moderate sized family car.

The boat will be driven by a member holding a Power Boat Level 2 certificate or equivalent and all members are encouraged to seek this qualification and a short range VHF licence.

Training

The Bath Bubble Club offers a full programme of diver training. Extend your diving skills and qualification with us – qualifications up to Dive Leader are available through in-house courses which are free to members.

Other courses are available through the SAA regional and national courses run by volunteer instructors basically at cost. The SAA is a non-profit making organisation so you can be sure that your training will be the most cost effective available.

In addition there are other skills that can be learned from commercial courses such as boat handling, radio operating, etc.

As the SAA (Sub-Aqua Association) is the UK authority that issues CMAS (World Underwater Federation) qualification all of your SAA certificates are immediately convertible into CMAS certificates

New Divers and learning to dive

If you are new to diving we offer a full range of training and certification for internationally recognised qualifications. You don’t have to be super-fit or an ace underwater swimmer to become a SCUBA diver. What you do need is an interest in the alien environment that you are about to explore. The Bath Bubble Club can then develop this interest so that you can explore the underwater world safely and with confidence.

If you learn to dive with the Bath Bubble Club, you can be sure that you will be taught by nationally qualified instructors who will guide you to becoming a competent and safe diver. Your training will follow the course developed and refined over many years by the SAA. Your training will consist of a series of lectures that explain the techniques of diving and something of the science associated with diving. You will become familiar with the all of the equipment that you will need to dive and you will learn the skills necessary to use it safely under water. Following the lectures you will be able to put your knowledge into practice in pool sessions accompanied by an instructor. The Bath Bubble Club lends you all the equipment you need during your training. When you are ready to dive in the sea, you will be closely supervised by your instructor while you develop your skills and start to explore the marine environment with us.

The training programme run by the Bath Bubble Club can be modified to suit the needs of each trainee. If any sessions are missed we will ensure that they can be made up at the end of the programme. When you are ready to dive in the sea, you will be closely supervised by one of our highly trained instructors on a one to one basis.

SCUBA diving is an exhilarating experience. With our extensive training the Bath Bubble Club can ensure you will be well prepared to dive in British waters under some of the most exacting conditions in the World and ready to enjoy diving in the more exotic places when on holiday.

All the Bath Bubble Club training takes place on a Wednesday evening. Pool sessions are held at Culverhay swimming pool starting at 8pm. This 22 metre pool is 3 metres deep at the deep end which allows our trainees to feel depth and practice many techniques not possible in a shallower pool. The time and location of the theory lectures will be arranged to suit all concerned.

The Bath Bubble Club provides the basic equipment required while you are training and for your first dive. However, you will need to acquire you own equipment for use after this time. The club members will all be very keen to assist you in selecting the best equipment available and second hand equipment is often available.

The Bath Bubble Club is a registered SAA (Sub-Aqua Association) club. The SAA is the only UK authority that issues CMAS (World Underwater Federation) qualifications. CMAS qualifications are recognised in every diving country around the world, so you will be able to dive anywhere without fear that your qualifications might not be recognised................................................................................................ Young Divers

The Bath Bubble Club can train young divers from the age of 12 years, however the individuals physical ability to cope with the weight of the equipment and disposition to study and understand the essential theory for personal safety when diving has to be taken in to account when accepting young divers for training.

The Bath Bubble club will only accept a member under the age of 18 years on the understanding that they will be accompanied by a parent or guardian for all attendances with the club. This is to provide the young person with a chaperone and to ensure that non-diving parents/ guardians understand the nature of the activity in which their dependants are engaged.

All instructors involved in training young divers will have been CRB checked
