Easter Weekend

The Lizard

Limited by the weather but some diving was achieved

West Bay – Sawtooth Ledges

Excellent dive. Cold (9deg) but good viz. Saw thornback ray,pink seafans, dogfish, scallops.

1 May 10 Early May Bank Holiday – Plymouth

Plymouth – James Eagan Layne

A lumpy ride from the breakwater to Whitsand Bay but calmer on the wreck

Plymouth – the Mew Stone

Surge made the diving tricky

Plymouth – Cawsand Bay

Reasonable viz. A training dive for Lee, Joe and Roger

2nd

Plymouth – James Eagan Layne

May bloom. Beautiful plumrose anemones

3rd

Plymouth – Tinkers Shoal

Wind and sea conditions had improved but the wind was picking up towards the end of the dive



Despite being blown out by the wind and cold on Sunday 22 dives were achieved in the weekend,

Lots of seagrass – no seahorses

29 May 10 Late May Bank holiday- Penzance

Porthkerris - Volnay

Dreadful weather

Penzance - Mystique

Small wreck. Saw octopus on rocks nearby

Kelpy dive. Saw large squid and lots of jellyfish

Porthkerris - Mohegan

Large wreck. Wonderful jewel anemones on nearby Manacles



5 Jun 10 West Bay

Lyme Regis - Baygitano

Poor viz. Saw several congers, a lobster, crabs, lots of fish

West Bay – Sawtooth Ledges

Interesting topography. Lots of scallops. Poor viz.



19 Jun 10

Vobster Quay

One dive only to be ready for BBQ. A training dive for Roger.

26 Jun 10 – Weymouth for the day

Weymouth – Lulworth Banks

Drift dive – getting quicker. Lots of scallops

Portland – the dredger

Warm water (14deg) and good viz. Saw lobster, crabs and many friendly fish

Portland west

Spring tide so a current running but warm water and excellent viz on the James Fennel.  Large crabs, a lobster, lots of tom pot blennies, Light bulb sea squirts, yellow sponges and pink sea fans as well as some large wrasse.



23 Jul 10 A good day of diving with two full boatloads, running from West Bay

Dive 1

Lyme Regis - Beygitano

Beygitano with good viz and an abundance of fish and other marine life. An absence of other divers made for a relaxed morning

Dive 2

Bridport the Ledges

Good viz and a low current provided a second good dive with plenty of interest



27 August To Salcombe for the Bank Holiday. A weekend of fine sunny weather but with wind and strong swell which limited diving opportunities

Saturday

Jive 2 the Main, Soudan, Stairhole Bay

Dives on the Main and the Soudan were successful but all shallow diving was prevented by the southerly swell which produced an uncomfortable surge in Stairhole bay

Good visibility and calm sea

Mew Stone Ledges

Good visibility and high natural light at 20m brought out the brilliant colours of the sea life

23rd

The Scylla

A little wind and white horses made for a wet ride to Whitsand Bay but plenty of light for a good view of the lush marine life

Closer inshore than yesterday but the same brilliant colours and rugged bottom

James Eagan Lain

Just Barry and Tim who found it a bit crowded with the contents of another dozen boats
